UFC’s 1st Lady, Ronda “Rowdy” Rousey is profiled in the latest Nine for IX Shorts for ESPN.
The latest episode of ESPN’s Nine for IX Shorts centers on the life and career of Rowdy Ronda Rousey. At the tender age of 27, Ronda’s become of UFC’s most prominent fighters over the last 18 months. After spending time in Strikeforce, she opens up on the backlash fellow women’s competitors received with jumping to the main roster of UFC early last year.
While some viewers even threatened to boycott UFC 157 for her inaugural Bantamweight Champion bout against Liz Carmouche, Dana White detailed the importance of standing behind the women’s division and the pressure both fighters had leading up to the showdown.
Only a few weeks removed from winning a fight in 16 seconds (Tyson Style), Rowdy gives a candid interview on her early life and wanting to become a fighter from the moment she was born. Among all active UFC fighters highlighted by Jon Jones, Cain Velasquez and Anderson Silva among others, Rousey is currently ranked the no. 9 pound-for-pound fighter in the octagon. She’s even beginning a movie career, which begins with upcoming releases The Expendables 3 and Fast & Furious 7 for her first ever feature film roles.
