The energy was high at Oriole Park at Camden Yards in Baltimore, Maryland on Friday night, because two red hot teams were going up against each other in Game 1 of the ALCS.
Going into the game, the Kansas City Royals were dead last in the MLB in home runs, while the Orioles were in first place. But on this night, the roles would switch starting in the 3rd inning, when Alcides Escobar jacked a home run to give the KC the early lead. Things got worse for the Orioles later in that inning, when Alex Gordon broke his bat and drove a blooper to right field, clearing the bases and putting the Royals up 4-1.
But Baltimore would not give up.
In the 5th inning they rallied thanks to an RBI double for Nelson Cruz and a two-out, two-run single for Ryan Flaherty to put them back in the game only down one. Then in the bottom of the 6th after an in-field error by the Royals from from a Alejandro De Aza hit, Adam Herrera scored the tying run. Every Orioles towel waving fan was on their feet.
But luck ran out when the Baltimore bullpen gave up two runs in the 10th inning, a solo shot by Alex Gordon and a two-run shot by Mike Moustakas to win the game.
Game 2 of the ALCS goes down Saturday at 4pm EST.
