Dirty slide or nah?
The New York Mets had the game in their hands until one hard slide by Chase Utley in the 7th inning that opened up the scoring and gave the Los Angeles Dodgers the edge.
The play in question was Utley trying to break up the double play by Ruben Tejada, which ended in the worst way imaginable for the Mets. The official diagnosis for Tejada is that he has a fractured right fibula and will be missing the rest of the post-season.
After being carted off the field, the Dodgers went on a run that ultimately put them up 5-2 and gave them the win at home in Dodgers stadium on Saturday night. The Utley play was reviewed and he was determined to be safe. Then Adrian Gonzalez double to right and brought home Utley and Howie Kendrick. To keep the run going, Justin Turner doubled to right, bringing Gonzalez home.
The baseball world will be talking about that play for the rest of the weekend, debating whether or not it was a dirty play or not. Do you think it was?
UPDATE: Utley suspended for Games 3 and 4 of the NLDS. He will appeal the decision.
