Rudy Gay, Sacramento Kings Reach 3-Year/$40 Million Extension

NBA: New York Knicks at Sacramento Kings

SHAQ’s Kings make next move to become future playoff team

This summer, Rudy Gay was expected to be an unrestricted free agent to hit the open market nearing the prime of his career. With another lockout possibly happening in a few years, the 28-year-old swing-man made a smart career decision staying with the Sacramento Kings on a multi-year extension. The 3-year and $40 million deal ensures he’ll remain with the Kings until the summer of 2018 when he’ll be turning 32.

Currently, Gay’s leading the team in scoring at 23 points a game and will be staying with the core of all-star player DeMarcus Cousins and sharp-shooter Ben McLemore. The team is fresh from their big 94-91 victory just last night and have started the season with a respectable 6-4 record. While the season is only three weeks in, the Kings have a long road ahead before they can contend and compete with the elite franchises out west.
