Russell Westbrook Signs 5-Year, $205M Contract Extension with OKC Thunder

The whole offseason went by and Russell Westbrook still hadn’t signed a contract extension with the Oklahoma City Thunder. Considering he was at fashion week, posting pictures with his son and letting the ink dry on a Jordan Brand deal, it was a bit peculiar as to why he hadn’t done so.

Most speculated it was because he was looking to get out of town. They were already saying he and Paul George were headed to Los Angeles to play with the Lakers alongside LeBron James.

Put all those theories to the side now. Westbrook has signed a massive 5-year extension with the Thunder today, worth a reported $205 million dollars.

The contract now gives the MVP the biggest guaranteed contract in NBA history ($233M for 6 years).

How this affects Paul George and Carmelo Anthony moving forward remains to be seen, but the Thunder have locked up one of the biggest pieces to keeping that core together for the long term and possibly becoming a championship contending team in the next few seasons.

OKC fans can rest easy. The King is staying in town.
