Russell Westbrook Ties LeBron James in Career Triple Doubles

At this point, it’s no secret: Russell Westbrook is a triple-double machine. He had one Friday night. He had one Saturday night. He now has seven for the season already. To put it in perspective, there have been 14 triple-doubles in the NBA this season and Westbrook has half of them.

With the one last night against the Detroit Pistons, he now ties LeBron James with 44 throughout his career and he did it in 395 fewer games (they both now sit sixth all-time). He is projected to pass Larry Bird (as fifth on the all-time list) sometime in January.

At the pace Russ is going, he is slated to hit the company of Wilt Chamberlain, Jason Kidd, Magic Johnson and Oscar Robertson as some of the greatest of all-time.

So what does he think of the big achievement?

“I mean, nothing. I’m happy we won — that’s the most important part for me. But I definitely don’t take anything for granted. Like I said, every night I step on the floor I try to compete at a high level and [am] thankful I can play the game I love every night.”

Last night at home, Westbrook finished the game 17 points, 13 rebounds and 15 assists in the Oklahoma City Thunder win. The team now improves to 10-8 for the season.
