We’ve never seen Tim Duncan hit the San Antonio Spurs court without a jersey, but the reality that he will never play another game in the NBA is sinking in.
Last night at the AT&T Center, the Spurs gave one of the greatest (if not THE) greatest power forwards of all time a retirement ceremony for the ages. Everyone from Manu Ginobli, Tony Parker and Coach Popovich spoke about Timmy and the impact he’s made on the team, organization and city. Even Coach Pop got emotional while speaking.
By the time Tim got the microphone, he got choked up. He managed to do so when speaking about Gregg, saying he’s like a father figure to him. We could see Pop’s eyes get watery.
Then his jersey was retired with the likes of other Spurs legends like David Robinson, Avery Johnson, Bruce Bowen and George Gervin. Even if you’re not a fan of the Spurs like that, just as a fan of basketball, you can appreciate how special the ceremony was.
