The 49ers look to reboot the franchise
Following their worst record since 2007, the San Francisco 49ers have parted ways with Jim Tomsula. After firing Jim Harbaugh last year, the one-year experiment of Tomsula wasn’t successful; with the team losing multiple players, due to random retiring, injuries and suspensions.
The team wasted no time, following their 19-16 victory over the St. Louis Rams Sunday afternoon, to join Philadelphia, Miami, Tennessee and Cleveland as the franchises who’s started Black Monday earlier than expected. This San Francisco failed season wasn’t Tomsula’s fault; but he didn’t do anything to give players or the front office intrigue moving forward.
At the moment, it’s being rumored that Sean Payton and Drew Brees are looking to head out west this winter, after their inevitable exits from New Orleans. With a historic franchise, exotic city and new stadium in play, it’s baffling how internal issues of the team have made the 49ers head coaching job unattractive. Take a look at the team’s official statement below.
“Jimmy has been a valuable member of the 49ers organization for the last nine years,” said CEO Jed York. “We all know he is a man of high character, and his contributions on the field and in our community have always been greatly appreciated. This entire organization is proud and grateful to have worked so closely alongside Jimmy. We all wish him and his family great success in the future.” – via 49ers.com
