Over his career and even during his retirement, Shaq has never been one to hold his tongue about anything. The latest thing that has irked the Big Aristotle is the new name of the New Orleans basketball franchise. As you probably know they now go by the Pelicans, which did throw many fans off at first.
“It’s a terrible name. I told Charles on TNT, I don’t think I’ve seen a Pelican before. Pelicans, are they that big white bird? I would had named them Tigers, Crawfish or something. Pelicans — no. But I wish them well. I’ll be anxious to see how many jerseys they sell.”
Shaq didn’t lay off at all, as you can see from the quote and also was nice enough to offer his own suggestions as a possible replacement name. But Shaq lets be real here, The New Orleans Crawfish? That doesn’t really strike fear in the heart of opponents.
If you had to help out the city of New Orleans with a name for the team, which would you suggest? In our eyes they could do much worse than Pelicans.
