The Sacramento Kings look like a team on the upswing in the NBA making some solid moves. The first of those recent moves was bringing in Shaq as a minority owner of the team. This was huge news for a number of reasons, but maybe most importantly because Shaq can mentor Kings center DeMarcus Cousins, as he progresses through his career.
That leads into the second major move the Kings made this week, by giving Cousins a huge 4-year $62 million contract extension through 2018. Cousins is undoubtedly one of the most talented players in the league, but he has some character concerns that make you wonder if this big of an extension is worth the risk. To the Kings, it apparently is and maybe with the influence of Shaq, Cousins can become the top center in the NBA.

The Kings now become one of the more interesting teams in the NBA. With a core group of DeMarcus, Isaiah Thomas and Ben McLemore they are a team to watch out for. They may still be a couple years and pieces away from the playoffs, but they will have a quality product on the court.
