Fit in, not out!
Through the first seven games of the 2017 NBA Season, the Golden State Warriors have shown some signs of looking like the team many fans are expecting to see next June. However, while Kevin Durant and Steph Curry have adjusted to playing with other, immediately, one player on the team is having a rough time adjusting to becoming the third option – and maybe fourth.
We put most of this blame on one Steven Kerr for not making lineup changes and not doing what’s best for the team. In our honest opinion, we believe Klay Thompson needs to become the team’s sixth man, because we feel Kerr doesn’t have any focus on Splash Bro. no. 2 in the team’s offense. While Thompson is still averaging 17 shots a game, he’s throwing up some questionable attempts – as some us have even called him a jack at times during the early stages of the year.
Klay simply looks uncomfortable being a third option on the team, which his superstar-status hasn’t been the same this year, compared to previous seasons. The majority of the time we see him catching the rock, it’s almost an instant contested attempt, sticking to his summer statements of not sacrificing shit on shots with Durant. He’s also shooting a career low in three-point field goal percentage at just .208 and doesn’t know when he’ll get out of shooting slump.
In our opinion, Kerr needs to have a sit-down with Thompson and explain to him his new role of being the leader of the team, when his top two stars get their rest. However, Steve needs to reiterate that Klay will be out there competing in the final minutes of the fourth quarter, which is expected.
At 5-2, the Warriors are on track to locking up one of the top seeds in the Western Conference, so we’re not judging the entire team’s play – only Klay’s performance and Kerr’s coaching decisions.
Let us know in the comments what you think about Klay’s adjustment to playing with two superstars and whether or not Coach Kerr should make immediate line-up changes.
