Mayweather looking to stay undefeated in light of serious personal issues, before big fight against Maidana.
UPDATE: Floyd Mayweather defeats Marcos Maidana via 12-round majority decision.
Fan favorite (and most hated?) Floyd “Money” Mayweather is scheduled to defend his title and improve on a flawless record of 45-0 tonight against Marcos Maidana. Although we all want/wanted to see Mayweather fight the only close to equal boxer on this planet, Manny Pacquiao, he still steps in the ring with top contenders.
Maidana, who carries a 35-3 record, is no different. Considering Maidana handed Adrien Broner (Mayweather’s close friend) his first loss this past December, we have witnessed firsthand his knockout ability. Is it the big brother avenging the loss or is Maidana a real contender and skilled enough to be a legit opponent for Mayweather?
We will find out tonight.
Showtime All Access: Mayweather vs. Maidana [Episode 1] [Episode 2] [Episode 3]
The WBA Welterweight titleholder has no fear in his eyes facing off against Floyd, believing as many of his previous opponents have, “my punching power is too much.” The issue opponents typically face is actually landing shots on the evasive Mayweather. Every generation gets their share of sports legends to witness; Floyd is definitely in our conversation. Saturday can either tarnish his perfect record or further etch his name into the boxing record books as one of the best fighters pound for pound.
“Money” Mayweather will definitely be contributing to his personal account in a big way, one in which he feels confident enough to say he could/wants to be a Clippers part owner. Reports show that his guaranteed purse is $32M just for entering the MGM on fight night. Not too crazy, but only because his last purse was more than $40M and set a record in the process. Maidana is set to earn $1.5M (not sure how he feels about that in comparison to Mayweather’s paycheck), but we’re sure his focus is on handing out the first loss to a perfect fighter.
In similar Mayweather news, we are all familiar with Instagram, right? Throwback Thursday #TBT floods our social network timelines, but Mayweather took it in a different direction this week. He took #TBT as a chance to throw shots at his ex by posting pictures of her before and after the “plastic surgery” and a receipt of the abortion of their twins (which is reportedly one of the major reasons why the couple split). That is madness. Why would he expose something so personal? Especially days before his major bout? Some speculate it’s because of her recent involvement with rap star Nelly. We hate the combination of gossip and sports, but he clearly had some things to get off his chest. Regardless, we have the confidence that Floyd is mentally and physically prepared to treat his opponent as he always does… with dominance.
The Mayweather and Maidana event is scheduled to begin May 3rd at 9PM EST with an exciting undercard lineup featuring the aforementioned Broner.
