Nobody expected the Seattle Seahawks and St. Louis Rams to be one of the best games of the week, but as division rivals, these two came out swinging in Week 1 at the Edward Jones Dome in Missouri. For a while there, it looks like the Rams would come away with the runaway victory, but thanks to the Legion of Boom, Seattle was back in the mix.
After a punt return touchdown for Tavon Austin in the third quarter, St. Louis went into the 4th up 24-13.
The 4th quarter was a different story. Russell Wilson connected with Jimmy Graham on a touchdown to start things off, then eight minutes later, the defense came up big, when Nick Foles fumbled thanks to a sack by Cary Williams and he took it to the house to put them up 31-24.
Nick Foles would then find the end zone in the clutch, tying the game thanks to a 37-yard pass to Lance Kendricks.
The Seahawks could not convert as time winded down in the 4th quarter, so the game went to overtime. To start OT, Seattle tried to use trickery for an advantage, but they couldn’t make it happen and gave the Rams great field position. St. Louis could only drive home a field goal, but they got some posts on the board. On the ensuing drive, the Rams defense came up huge when they stopped the Seahawks on multiple running drives, especially the very last one on 4th and inches, when Marshawn Lynch didn’t convert the first down.
Foles ended the game 18/27 with 297 yards, one touchdown and two fumbles, while Jared Cook lead all receivers with 85 yards on 5 receptions. On the other side of the ball, Wilson finished the game 32/41 for 251 yards, Lynch rushed for 73 yards on 18 carries and Jermaine Kearse led all Seattle receivers with 76 yards on 8 receptions.
