Kawhi Leonard looked real silly after this play
NBA fans waited 40 games for the Monday night match-up between the defending world champion Golden State Warriors and San Antonio Spurs. Prior to the game, Gregg Popovich revealed that Tim Duncan would sit out the game for soreness in right knee – starting the first of many mind games with their league rival. However, the Warriors still took the game serious, as if it were a playoff meeting and sent the rest of the league the biggest statement of the season.
San Antonio received large contributions from David West, who scored 12 points in just 19 minutes; but Steph Curry draining six three-pointers was just too much for them to handle. Steph could’ve easily scored 50 for the night, but sat out the fourth quarter on Coach Kerr’s order.
Before leaving the game, he would challenge the league’s best defender on a cross-matchup. Steph was planning to fade in for a cut to the rim, but that instantly put Kawhi Leonard on skates, freeing up just the right amount space the MVP needed to slide into the corner and drill a three-pointer.
Both teams play again three more times throughout the year, which we’re sure Pop will be subbing in and out players during each meeting. With both the Spurs and Warriors favorites to likely meet in western conference finals in May, this 30-point blowout victory is definitely something San Antonio didn’t want Golden State to walk away with. Watch the highlight above.
