“It’s an amazing new day in Clippers history” (c) Doc Rivers
The Donald Sterling era in the NBA is finally over. Reports came out today that ownership of the Los Angeles Clippers has been officially given to Steve Ballmer, after a California court ruled that Shelly Sterling could sell the team on behalf of the Sterling Family Trust. This comes after weeks of court proceedings, which delayed the sale of the team after Ballmer put in his $2 billion dollar bid.
The NBA’s board of governors voted and approved of Ballmer as an owner last month and as Superior Court Judge Michael Levanas’ written order came through earlier today, the sale was made final.
Ballmer hopes to meet with Doc Rivers, players and employees on Monday and get acquainted with his new team and is ecstatic at the news.
The Clippers can now begin to move forward and breathe easy after months of controversy surrounding Donald Sterling and reports that Doc Rivers would leave the team if he was still owner by the start of the 2014-2015 season.
It is interesting to note that Shelly Sterling will remain as an affiliate, with two courtside seats at STAPLES Center and two parking spots at the stadium. If the Clippers ever win a championship, she will also get a pair of rings.
