With the second round of group D games getting underway, a tough encounter saw Uruguay push on for a 2-1 win over England. Following a return from injury leaving him out of the first game, Suarez managed to grab the opener just before half time, who worked himself into a dangerous position to head home a cross from Cavani.
When it seemed like the game was pushing away from England, Rooney, who hadn’t scored in approximately 750 minutes of the World Cup competition, equalized out of nowhere by getting on the end of a low cross from Johnson.
With around 15 minutes to go, the momentum was with England.
But then the worst case scenario happened for Hodgson’s side. Just minutes to go before the full-time whistle, Suarez scored his second goal of the game. A long ball from the keeper flicked off the head of Gerrard and into the path of the Uruguayan player, who took a shot from a difficult position to put the ball past Hart.
2-1 was the final score.
Suarez took the Premier League by storm last season, and it seems he can’t get enough of anything related to England.
