The Biggest Free Agents of the 2014 NBA Off-Season

Detroit Pistons v Atlanta Hawks

Greg Monroe

We’re still confused at how the Detroit Pistons were able to have such a big free agency last year and under-perform well below .500 basketball. With team’s commitment to Andre Drummond and Joe Dumars’ questionable signing of Josh Smith last free agency for a contract they can’t get rid of, Greg Monroe is the odd man out. He’s requesting maximum money, which they won’t be able provide this summer, but does have some suitors on the market.

The Philadelphia 76ers would be our ideal spot for him to go. After clearing up cap room space with Andrew Bynum, the team essentially has a large amount of money they can spend this summer. 76ers management is virtually sold on drafting Andrew Wiggins with the number two pick for the draft to pair him alongside Nerlens Noel and Michael Carter-Williams. With the inclusion of Greg Monroe, they could be a legitimate playoff team in a much weakened Eastern Conference.

The Pistons do have Monroe under restricted free agency meaning they can match any offer he receives, but we think they’re downplaying the level of attraction he has throughout the NBA.

Likely Destinations: Detroit Pistons, Philadelphia 76ers
