Dirk Nowitzki
Out of respect, we have to include Dirk Nowitzki into this list. While it’s highly unlikely he would ever step away from loyalty to Mark Cuban and the city of Dallas, this is his last major contract we’ll see for the 36-year-old. The future first-ballot Hall-of-Famer finally achieved an NBA title 3 years ago to complement his illustrious 16-year career in the NBA.
The Mavericks had one of the best rosters we’ve ever seen for an NBA Finals winner and Dirk was at the center of the attention to capture the series MVP award. Weeks later, the team would soon make a roster overhaul losing talent including Jason Terry, Jason Kidd, Tyson Chandler, DeShawn Stevenson and Jose Barea. The billionaire Cuban has been envisioning a plan for this summer to acquire talent to compliment Nowitzki like years past and will have one more shot to do so with the 7 foot jump shooting German-bred.
Miami Heat forward, Chris Bosh has been linked to this team as a lock to return home to north Texas if the South Beach trio would dissolve this year. With Monta Ellis finally coming into his own as a legitimate point guard and Vince Carter still showing signs of being able to drop 20-plus when needed, a wing player and center will be something they’re looking into when Dirk re-signs.
