The Boston Red Sox Win The 2013 World Series

Not since 1918, has a Boston Red Sox fan seen the team win a World Series at Fenway Park, but tonight the 95-year streak is snapped after beating the St. Louis Cardinals 6-1 in a soldout and rowdy Game 6 at home. The win gives the Red Sox their eighth overall title and their third in ten seasons, but none is sweeter than this.

With the team on his back, David Ortiz ended with a .688 batting average (including two homers, six RBIs and eight walks), winning his first ever World Series MVP award.

Meanwhile, John Lackey has become the first pitcher in the history of baseball to start and win a series clincher for two different MLB teams, in a victory that came 11 years after his Game 7 Angels rookie season championship, back in 2002.

With the ballpark in full erupt mode, Koji Uehara struck out Matt Carpenter for the final out and ultimate glory, giving the 38,447 fans in the stadium a performance of a lifetime. This comes after trailing the Cardinals 2-1 in the series, then going into beastmode, taking home three straight wins and ultimately The Commissioner’s Trophy.

This win gives the city hope, after the tragic events this past April, where three people were killed and more than 260 wounded in the bombings at the Boston Marathon.
