Less friendly competition, more tough shit!
Throughout 2015, the entire talk of the season was a potential playoff match-up between the Los Angeles Clippers and Golden State Warriors (CP3 vs. MVP). While Lob City could’ve played their California-foe in the Western Conference Finals last May, they didn’t handle business against James Harden and the Houston Rockets – following their infamous 4th quarter 20-point meltdown.
Watching Stephen Curry and company win the Larry O’Brien trophy during June was a tough pill to swallow for Doc Rivers and his team, and almost losing Deandre Jordan to the Dallas Mavericks would’ve been their final nail in the coffin as a contender.
However, they’ve been publicly commenting on the Golden State title run, saying they avoided elite contenders and played injury-plagued teams during the spring games. The 2016 rift all started when Doc conducted a recent interview earlier this month with Grantland’s Zach Lowe saying, “You need to luck in the West. Look at Golden State. They didn’t have to play us or the Spurs.”

This prompted Stephen Curry and Draymond Green to publicly respond to criticism from teams around the NBA; but more specially, the Clippers who have been the only ones vocal.
It was obvious that both teams didn’t like each other, but their rift among all teams is bigger than any two franchises in the entire NBA. The Warriors humbly accepted their accolades over the summer but they know they’re a big target on their backs and comments directly from Los Angeles has fueled them in training camp, for some unexpected motivation after a title victory.
This transitioned from the real world to social media, as the Clippers Twitter handler mocked the Warriors, showing a Lob City highlight. Golden State sarcastically showed a vulnerable Chris Paul guarding the league’s MVP, during one of his biggest plays of the regular season, even leaving Head Coach Steve Kerr in shock. Although it’s a regular season game tonight on NBA TV, we might be tuning in if the MLB Playoffs are a bust later tonight. Peep the shade exchanges in full below!
