The New York Islanders Announce Move To Brooklyn For 2015

The Islanders Of Long Island Will Hit The Borough In 3 Years.

With the recent opening of the brand new $1B dollar sports arena the Barclays Center a last month, the Brooklyn Nets will have a co-tenant with the new announcement of moving to the borough in time for the 2015-2016 season. The Islanders had been trying to land a new arena to replace the old and non-renovated Nassau Coliseum which opened in 1972 but will find themselves traveling on the 495 to Flatbush Ave. when the time is right.

In the 25-year agreement between the Islanders and Barclays Center, they will keep their original name and logo pending NHL approval with season ticket deposits already being accepted. The arena will be able to hold 14,500, which is less than the smallest NHL arena, but the MTP Center for the Winnipeg Jets. Ownership questions whether fans will follow their team from L.I. over west to BK, but the arena alone is a tourist attraction and a destination for many sports fans around the city to experience the center.

The only questions that linger now are Mikhail Prokhorov and Jay-Z done bringing sports teams to Kings County after already landing two major franchises in this short period of time or will their be more in store. Only time will tell from now, but can hockey come back already? Thanks in advance.
