Romo Gets $108M Contract Extension Becoming Highest Paid Cowboy In History.
If you thought Joe Flacco’s 6-Year, $120.6M contract ($52M in guaranteed) was a bit over the top, here’s something you can add to your list of sporting rants. Jerry Jones and the Cowboys have officially let the world know Tony Romo will be the franchise for the next 6-seasons signing him to a $108M deal in which $55M is guaranteed.
Romo who’s turning 33 in a few days, has only achieved one playoff victory during his 10-year tenure with Dallas. Looking back at Flacco who just won a Super Bowl with no interceptions thrown though a post-season, his deal looks more believable than Romo’s for the time being considering he’s at least a proven player.
We have no problem with Tony Romo the player since the Cowboys have been one of the worst rushing teams (2nd worst in 2012) and in the bottom half of team defense for the last few years; but whenever Romo gets in big game situations he tends to always freeze up leaving questions whether he can be an elite QB to win Super Bowl(s).
His talents aren’t the question, but more less the execution and his train of thought when he hits the NFL field for the postseason. The last 3 seasons, Dallas hasn’t made it over .500 to reach the playoffs, which has been a huge let down for “America’s Favorite Franchise.” Romo, the individual player is a superstar when he wants to be; but at the end of the day, playing QB is the most important position in all of sports with his leadership role being only second to the head coach to motivate the team.
With Romo joining Flacco as the two current highest paid QB’s in the NFL, we’re contemplating career changes to forgo an NFL front office job. Let us know in the comments your opinion of the signing.
