Did Jerry Jones Make The Right Decision Betting On Tony Romo?
It’s no secret that Tony Romo has suffered the majority of the blame for the Dallas Cowboys unsuccessful times over the last year. From the botched field goal attempt in 2006, that led to the Seattle Seahawks winning the Super Bowl after Wild Card weekend, the Cowboys have little to look forward to this year, with their defense at an all-time low.
Dallas lost both DeMarcus Ware and Jason Hatcher in free agency due to cap issues, but got the worst news of their year when Sean Lee was ruled out the entire year with a torn ACL. Last summer, team owner Jerry Jones gave Romo the largest contract for any Cowboys player ever at $108M. Although it was somewhat reconstructed this summer, Jerry’s putting his name on the name by co-signing Tony for the long-term.
During last spring’s NFL Draft when Johnny Manziel was still available later in the first round, Jones had an idea of drafting the Texas native and former Heisman trophy finalist to bring in that missing “winner-mindset” to the team. However, Jerry listened to his peers and closest associates amongst the team and didn’t want to create some quarterback controversy in the big-D.
With Adrian Peterson saying he wants to play in Dallas, Jerry will now have to make due with a limited team on defense and Dez Bryant playing in a contract year.
