I wanted to pick some teams that surprised me, I found out it was difficult for that. The Iowas and Xaviers of the world have been playing lights out. Oklahoma was supposed to be good with Buddy Hield, but we’ve seen how dominant they’ve been. So I zeroed in on one team, buried in arguably the best conference in college basketball. The West Virginia Mountaineers have caught my eye for various reasons. Mainly because of how difficult of a conference they’re in. With a 17-3 record beating a number one team they have impressed. The losses were at Oklahoma by 2 and 2 home games against Texas and Virginia. So you could label them as “Quality Losses.” Coming into this season having only 1 ESPN top 100 commit and 3 four star players over the past two years, much wasn’t expected.

A young team being lead by Junior Devin Williams the Mountaineers have been rolling with the best of them. The recent suspension to Senior Jonathan Holton, could become a bump in the road but only time will tell. Left on their schedule is filled with top ranked schools. They have Iowa State and Baylor both two more times. Then there’s Oklahoma and Kansas one more time each. Currently they’re ranked 9th in the nation, with the toughest part of the schedule left. West Virginia could be the team to beat in the Big 12 tournament.
