Tyson Chandler Out 4-6 Weeks With Small Right Fibula Fracture

Knicks Media Day Basketball
The 1-3 Knicks Will Be Without Their Center Tyson Chandler For 4-6 Weeks.

The Knicks season is off to a rocky start, with the team starting well below .500 to begin the year. There’s obviously time to improve, but finishing the season without first round homecourt advantage is something they will be looking to avoid all year.

The Pacers, Nets, Heat and Bulls are off to a great start this year (all playing for positioning); but New York is more suitable for the regular season with youth and health on their roster. Last night, during their home game against Michael Jordan’s Charlotte Bobcats, Chandler left the court during the first quarter after suffering an injury. Initial x-rays came back inconclusive, but after a further examination earlier this morning, news surfaced that their only player above 7’ft would be out of action for four to six weeks.

This comes as a huge blow to New York, who are already dealing with the slow progress of Amar’e Stoudemire’s knees (and health in general) and lack of defense now with their anchor. With Chandler’s small non-displaced fractured right fibula injury, the Knicks will have to most likely go extremely small at the front court with Andrea Bargnani at center and Ron Artest switching to the four at times with Carmelo Anthony.

The only good news that fans of the team can look forward to is the return of J.R. Smith this Sunday when they host the San Antonio Spurs.
