Another year of college basketball is in the books, as tonight the UConn Huskies were able to knock off the Kentucky Wildcats 60-54. This one was a back and fourth battle in the 2nd half, but that is after UConn dominated for much of the first half. Like they have done all tournament though, Kentucky fought back to make it a very exciting game down the stretch. In the end, it seems that the lack of experience for Kentucky caught up to them, as they looked a little out-matched down the stretch. UConn on the other hand was poised all the way through, as star PG Shabazz Napier was amazing tonight. Unlike the last game against Florida, Napier’s jump shot was on early and often, as he helped the Huskies get out to an early lead, which they were ultimately able to sustain for the entire game.
Tonight’s game capped an amazing tournament run for UConn, which cemented them as the only #7 seed ever to win a national title. This run also laid down Napier’s mark in college basketball history, as he was named the “Most Outstanding Player” of the entire tournament.
Highlights after the jump.
OS REWIND: Coach Calipari & Drake’s Kentucky Wildcats Victory Speech
Overall, this has been one of the most memorable NCAA Tournament’s in recent memory, as it had everything to make it great. We saw huge upsets, buzzer-beaters, high-flying dunks all in the span of a month, which reassures the thought that this really is the best time during the sports calendar. So, while we now have to wait until next fall for more college basketball, we will always have this years memories to relive for a lifetime.
