Anderson Silva puts his record winning and title defense UFC streaks on the line against arch-nemesis Chael Sonnen
Tonight’s tale of the tape features a rematch between the “best fighter on the planet” UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva and challenger Chael Sonnen. Realistically, this isn’t the biggest card that UFC’s ever had, but over the course of the past two weeks with these two jawing back and forth, it’s turned into one of the most anticipated UFC fights ever. Sonnen has been quoted as saying “This is the biggest fight of all time“; while Silva has promised to break his face and every tooth in his mouth for past comments towards his wife and home country of Brazil.
The last time these two fought, Sonnen was victim to a surprise triangle arm-bar forcing him to submit to Silva at UFC 117 two years ago. The original rematch for Sonnen & Silva was scheduled for September of last year; but Sonnen tested positive for PED’s and was suspended for a year. Since his title defeat and return from suspension last October, Sonnen’s been on a tear in UFC scoring consecutive victories against Brian Stann and Michael Bisping. This convinced UFC president Dana White to give Sonnen his wishes (as well as most of ours) with a rematch against rival Silva.
