Ohio State has given Meyer NFL-like pay in new multi-year extension!
Last winter’s first ever College Football Playoff resulted in Ohio State upsetting Marcus Mariota and the Oregon Ducks in the National Championship. When Braxton Miller and his backup J.T. Barrett obtained season-ending injuries, Buckeyes head coach Urban Meyer looked to third string red-shirt sophomore Cardale Jones to give us one of college football’s biggest Cinderella stories in recent memory.
In their journey to the National Championship, Ohio State even pulled an upset against Nick Saban and his Alabama Crimson Tide program in the semifinals last December. On the peak-end of 2013, Alabama ended all rumors of their head coach heading to the Texas Longhorns, with inking him to a long-term contract to become the highest paid collegiate coach for football. Ohio State University has waited three months after winning their first national championship since 2002 to properly give Urban a new 5-year extension through 2020.
The new deal will give him an average of $6.5 million a year and has now put him as the second-highest paid coach for college football in the country. Throughout three seasons, Meyer is undefeated in regular season Big Ten Play and will be looking to continue impressive outings like his current 38-3 record.
