Team USA basketball is ready to turn over a new page and that begins today with the announcement of the new 28 player pool. The returning players still feature some of the best in the world including LeBron James, Carmelo Anthony, Chris Paul and Dwight Howard. Also in the mix are the new crop of NBA talent like Kyrie Irving, Damian Lillard, Paul George and DeMarcus Cousins. The importance of adding the new young crop of guys into is because Melo, Bron and Paul have said they will not play in the 2014 World Cup Of Basketball in Spain this Summer, which is a precursor to the 2016 Olympics.
Mike Krzyzewski and Jerry Colangelo will have to pick a 12-man roster for both the World Cup and the following Olympics, so with some of the major stars skipping the event this Summer it will be a great chance for some of the younger crop to shine. Three notable names not seen on the list are Kobe Bryant, who said the London games would be his final team USA go around, and Heat players Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh. It will be very interesting to see what players make the cut to go to Spain in August and who will be the new leaders of team USA in International play.
