After months of stalling, negotiating and standing ground, the Denver Broncos and Von Miller have finally come to a contract agreement. The best part for Von? It’s the biggest deal for a defensive ever in the history of the league. It only trails Andrew Luck‘s massive contract in Indianapolis in terms of guaranteed money.
The Super Bowl MVP has signed a 6-year deal worth $114.5 million dollars, which will see $70 million in guarantees by the third year. Von will receive a $23 million signing bonus —huge money— and $42 million guaranteed at signing. That’s beast.
Those numbers are a significant jump to what he was going to receive this season under the franchise tag, which would have paid him only $14 million.
Miller had until Friday to decide whether or not he would take the Broncos new offer, play under the tag (which he was threatening not to do) or consider sitting out an entire season.
Right when you thought shit might hit the fan, the two sides agreed in the clutch.
Von can thank Fletcher Cox for his new deal, because his $55 million dollar guaranteed money signing is what dictated the market for him and gave him leverage to push Denver to the brink.
