Warriors squeeze out another win
There were rumblings before tip-off that the Boston Celtics actually had a chance to take down the reigning champs. The Golden State Warriors were at their mercy in the TD Garden, finding themselves down three points with a little over two minutes left in the fourth quarter. With the streak on the brink of being broken, the team rallied and forced overtime.
It took two overtime periods to finally get the job done, and they could thank the spectacular effort of Draymond Green to hold on to history and remain undefeated to start the season.
Without two of their starters (Klay Thompson and Harrison Barnes) and Steph Curry struggling to find his usual stroke, Golden State relied on the rest of the team to carry the load through good movement of the ball and clutch shots. Some of which came at the most crucial times down the stretch and well into overtime.
Even with his worst shooting performance of the season, Curry finished the game with 38 points, 11 rebounds and 8 assists. As impressive as that is, it was Green’s hustle that helped spark the fire into the Warriors, ending his night with a stat sheet that read 24 points, 11 rebounds, eight assists, five blocks and five steals.
Even with Isaiah Thomas and Kelly Olynyk giving the Celtics a fair fight, it wasn’t enough for Boston to shatter historic records, but it was a valiant attempt.
Golden State faces the Milwaukee Bucks tomorrow on a back-to-back, which may prove to be another tough game on the road before they head back home to Oakland to face the Phoenix Suns on Wednesday. They currently hold a 28-game winning streak dating back to last season, with five more wins to tie the record set by the Los Angeles Lakers set in 1971-72.
Steph said after the game he’s going to have the energy when they step out on the court tomorrow, but the team still has to find ways to improve out on the court.
