With Steve Kerr back on the bench for the Golden State Warriors, the team had extra motivation to get the job done against the Cleveland Cavaliers in Game 2 of the NBA Finals.
Even after the blowout in Game 1 on Thursday, the Cavs came out playing better against the Dubs on Sunday night. But it wasn’t enough.
Kevin Durant and Steph Curry still cooked and led the team in scoring, and Klay Thompson finally showed up for a game in the series. He had previously went ghost for most of the playoffs.
Meanwhile, on the other side of the ball, LeBron James kept carrying the Cavs and their other Big 3 of Kevin Love and Kyrie Irving still showed up, but the rest of the role players were nowhere to be found. Once again, no other Cleveland player scored in double digits.
It seemed like the Warriors were just having their way with the Cavs.
Durant finished the game with 33 points and 13 rebounds, while Curry notched his first ever NBA triple double, scoring 32 points, getting 11 assists and 10 rebounds. The other Splash Brother had 22 points and 7 rebounds and Draymond Green had a cool 12 points in the win.
King James led the Cavs in scoring and got his own triple double with 29 points, 14 assists and 11 rebounds, as Love wasn’t far behind with 27 points and 7 rebounds. Irving also contributed with 19 points, but obviously it wasn’t enough.
As much as people want to say this series is over, we’ve been at this place before and that 73-9 team gave up a 3-1 series lead. So it isn’t over until it’s over.
The series now shifts to Cleveland for Game 3 as the two will play on Wednesday.
