Washington Nationals Stay Alive in NLDS with Victory Over San Francisco Giants

San Francisco Giants put Championship Celebration on hold with game 4-1 loss

Last season, the San Francisco Giants missed the post-season following their World Series victory a year prior in 2012. While that marked their second championship in three seasons, San Francisco finally made their way back to the playoffs this year led by league’s best pitching collective and an even more respectable line-up of sluggers. After destroying the Pittsburgh Pirates on the road to stay alive in a 8-0 Wild Card blowout victory, San Francisco soon started their divisional series against the Washington Nationals.

While their opponents were the favorites, the Giants shocked all winning the first two games, led by impressive pitching from Jake Peavy and Tim Hudson. Washington was facing a must-win situation tonight following their 18-inning 2-1 home loss on Saturday to find themselves in a 0-2 series hole. San Francisco came into tonight’s game with the longest active post-season winning record at 10, tying the 1990 Oakland Athletics and 1937-41 New York Yankees for third-longest in MLB history.

The National’s were feeling it tonight!

The crowd at AT&T Park came out early to support their team with plenty of brooms handy; with even former WWE Champion Daniel Bryan starting an infamous “YES” chant in the pre-game. The Giants called up their ACE, Madison Bumgarner with hopes of closing things out tonight. Washington also went to an ACE of their own in Doug Fister to potentially push the series to a game 4. Both pitchers had impressive outings, only giving up a combined 7 hits through the first six innings.

By the top of the 7th, Washington finally found some much-needed production from the Ian Desmond with a single to left, followed immediately by a Bryce Harper walk. Nationals catcher, Wilson Ramos was next up to bat for a sac-hit to advance runners; but Bumgarner would have one of the worst errors in his career, as both Desmond and Harper scored to give them a 2-0 advantage. This marks the Giants first loss since the 2012 post-season, and ends their long-stream of 10 consecutive post-season wins.

Hey Bumgarner, YOU THROW LIKE A BITCH!

Game 4 is tomorrow at 9pm ET, featuring starting pitchers Gio Gonzalez and Ryan Vogelsong.
