An emotional Famous Jameis
Jameis Winston is not having a “Rookie of the Year” type season, considering he has struggled to be consistent on the field week in and week out, but he’s surprised the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the fact that he’s stepped up to be one of the leaders in the locker room in his first year. Teammates have already come out and said they’re impressed by his demeanor, work ethic and drive to get better and have welcomed him as part of the leaders on the squad.
Case in point after the ugly win against the Dallas Cowboys last weekend. Winston went from being the one who cost them the game (he fumbled on a scramble at the goal line, but a penalty gave the Bucs the ball back) to the hero, when a fake handoff bootleg play went for a touchdown helped give Tampa Bay the decisive 10-6 win.
After the game, Jameis was caught in the locker room giving a passionate speech to the team, rallying the troops and giving them hope to keep pushing in the division. Meanwhile, coach Lovie Smith stood there listening like a proud dad watching his only son that made it.
“That’s how you overcome adversity. I told you! The team that want it the most was going to pull that game off. Defense you kicked their asses! You kicked their asses! Offense, we kept fightin’ baby. We kept fightin’! If we keep doing that, if we keep doing that, and we give all we got, if we have each other’s back, we going to go 7-0 on these bitches! Let’s go!”
The Bucs sit 3rd in the NFC South standings at 4-5 and face the Philadelphia Eagles on the road next Sunday, then will play some crucial division opponents to end the season. If they can win 4 out of the last 7 games, they might be able to squeeze into the Wild Card, if the Atlanta Falcons continue losing like they have been the past few games.
Either way, the Bucs are already in a better position than they were last year and Famous Jameis has played a part in making that happen for Tampa Bay.
