Yankees Sign Jacoby Ellsbury To 7-Year/$153 Million Deal

MLB: Chicago White Sox at Boston Red Sox

Nobody told the Yankees it was winter, because tonight they have officially heated up MLB by signing former Red Sox CF Jacoby Ellsbury. Early reports have the deal around $153 million over 7 years, which is right around the contract that fellow CF Carl Crawford received. On the field, this move gives the Yanks great flexibility and a solid lead off hitter in Jacoby, who is also dynamic in the outfield.

The other area this move affects is the current free agency of Robinson Cano and the largest free agent contract ever he was seeking from New York. As of right now, that seems in serious doubt unless the two teams can come closer on the terms. As for Jacoby, that first time back to Fenway Park is going to be very interesting for him!
