After nearly 7-years of waiting, Microsoft has finally incorporated Blu-Ray into their home video game console for the Xbox One. One of the things that hindered the Xbox 360 was the lack of Blu-Ray, which the PlayStation 3 used to their advantage in the early years of their life-cycle.
When digital media came to the consoles however, Microsoft used it to their advantage with the lack of Blu with help from the biggest companies in Hollywood to provide streaming including HBO GO Netflix, and Hulu Plus to name a few. The majority of these apps will be available on PlayStation 4 with the exception of HBO Go’s announcement, which has become arguably the most popular app on Xbox outside of Netflix.
Now that PlayStation mirrors the apps seen on the Xbox One, Microsoft is looking to broaden the spectrum on their console’s entertainment with Integrated Live TV and Pay-Per-View Events. Television providers haven’t been announced at the moment but in the history of Xbox 360, the first services to provide content were Verizon and Comcast.
Although we can do all of these things already on set top boxes, PC’s, tablets and etc; Microsoft is pushing the emphasis with the “All Your Entertainment” moniker as the one and only media device you need in your house to do everything from Live TV, Movies, PPV and of course gaming. In the entertainment department, Xbox One is light years of the PlayStation 4, with even the Xbox 360 not being too far behind as well. Thanks to the instant voice navigation (improved by Kinect 2), your Xbox One might be just as fast as your television box.
Winner: Xbox One
