Microsoft is presenting their Xbox One as an all-in-one entertainment system. The problem is most of these features that are being marketed including Live TV, DVR and certain streaming apps are already available to do around your house on set-top-boxes and Blu-Ray players. This isn’t going to be appealing to many of the hardcore gaming; which is what the consoles emphasis should be, gaming.
Although the PlayStation 4 isn’t launching with Killer-App exclusives, it’s still our pick for the gamer to purchase this fall; largely due to it being stress free, strong stability in hardware and the lack of bullshit you have to deal with from Microsoft in their first-party only (cheap) accessories that are imminent to break. Sony learned from their mistakes launching the $499 and $599 PlayStation 3 consoles, which consumers and loyal fans didn’t purchase the systems until price drop.
Out the gate, the PlayStation 4 sees a $399 price point, which many gamers and parents will find themselves favoring the Sony console than the $100 more Xbox. In this economy where everything is already digital, $499 for a new console is a little too sleep for the average consumer, which could be the fate of the Xbox One. Now that Sony has strong third party support again for the first time since the PS2, more and more developers will pick sides after console and software launch sales show hit the holiday NPD.
Microsoft essentially has unlimited funds, while the Sony video game division for PlayStation is just now climbing out of the negative. This holiday season is the most important them ever to regain their user-base that was lost last generation and convince developers this is the console they want to make games on. Microsoft’s greed and arrogance is at an all-time high, as only finishing 2nd place in the holidays could bring them back down to earth.
We’ve gave you our true opinions based on factual evidence and experiences of owning both previous consoles to give you the best guide in making your purchase decision.
Winner: PlayStation 4
