Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 Multiplayer Details

Last week, Treyarch revealed the multiplayer trailer of Black Ops 2 to the masses.  After watching it, we’re pretty sure it left you wanting to see more footage.  Yesterday at Gamescom 2012 in Cologne, Germany,  Treyarch revealed just about everything dealing with multiplayer, along with alot of in-game match play.  The video is over an hour long, but if you want a text version of all the details, click the jump.

In the 80 minute video, game design director David Vonderhaar reveals the new “Pick 10” class feature.  The create-a-class from past CoD’s get’s completely revamped, with this new 10 point load out system, which will allow players to create and configure over half a million different load outs.  The days when certain perks affect weapon performance are a thing of the past, as now the only way to achieve that is to chose select gun attachments.   “Wildcards” make the class creation interesting, as they allow you for extra slots for more perks, leathals or a third attachment for your primary (2nd for secondary).  This comes useful if you only use one attachment instead of the allowed; using a wildcard in this instance will give you an option to use 5 perks instead of the traditional three.

Killstreaks are a thing of the past, sort of.  Black Ops II replaces that system with “Scorestreaks”. Instead of kills, these streaks reward you by the score requirement.  You still get to select 3 streaks (UAV, flying -shooting-futuristic-things, attack dogs, ect), but instead of kills, they’re obtainable by a targeted score.  You get a certain number of points per kill, defend, capture, UAV assist, double kill, longshot, ect., which builds up your score meter to get your desired streak.  Once you die, the score resets and you have to build it back again. The puppies are back. The Blackbird is back.  The Death Machine makes an appearance, and unlike before, you get to keep this gun even after you die, as long as you still have ammunition left. Even that annoying RX-DC in Ops 1 makes a return, along with a shitload of new, futuristic streaks.

Then there’s the new CoDCasting feature.  It’s exactly what you think it is: Call of Duty broadcasting. Instead of picking up a gun, you now can have full control of a match, equipped with your headset, camera controls, map views, leaderboards, even picture-in-picture views, while you and/or your friend can provide commentary throughout the whole match, and stream it live over the internet, for everybody to see.  The possibilities of this feature enhance and broaden the Call of Duty experience to levels we’ve never seen before.

Oh, yeah, there’s also in game match footage too.  4 matches were shown; TDM on Cargo (26:10), MTDM on Turbine (42:34), Hardpoint on Cargo (1:03:02) and Domination on Aftermath (1:11:37).

Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 arrives November 13th.  You can pre-order it now to receive the bonus Nuketown 2025 multiplayer map at launch.
