Backwards compatibility for the win. . .
Since the release of both the Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5, one of the main sticking points was the upgrade to 120fps. When the PS5 first released, we were presented Spider-Man with 60fps, as well as other sports games using the standard performance rate. However, Electronic Arts is gearing up for the upcoming release of Mass Effect Legendary Edition.
The title is set to be a compilation of the video games in the Mass Effect trilogy: Mass Effect, Mass Effect 2, and Mass Effect 3. This week, Legendary Edition director, Mac Walters, revealed that only the Xbox Series X version will be capable of 120fps. For those of you with the right setup, this is a major difference in gameplay experience.
For whatever reason, some games like Tony Hawk and DIRT 5, which both output 120fps on the X; have some of our most played titles generation so far. Considering it’s only the first six months of each console’s life cycle, this 120fps news should not be overlooked. As owners of both systems, we’ve been underwhelmed by the PS5 thus far.
EA Sports UFC 4, which received a fps boost on the X, still feels like last gen on the 5. Compared the Xbox Series X, which has over 60 games running 120fps, the PS5 only has 12 working games at 120fps. Let us know what you think.
