Hideo Kojima on Pending Production for PS4 Exclusive ‘Death Stranding’

If you own a PS4, ‘Death Stranding’ is a must have!

During Sony’s e3 event last week, Hideo Kojima hit the downtown Los Angeles stage to give a world premiere for his mysterious title, Death Stranding. At the moment, the only thing holding the game back is just which engine his team at Kojima Productions will decide to go forward with.

Contrary to many believing that the game wouldn’t start full development until next year at the earliest, Hideo is aggressively moving forward with his potential Killer-App title for the PlayStation 4 – beyond his Metal Gear Solid franchise exit this year with Konami Entertainment.

In a recent interview with Eurogamer, the legendary developer opened up on the game of course, his partnership with Sony and finally starting his own business.

Take a look at excerpts from the interview below.

Decision making in regards to picking the right engine.
“Outside of my head I’m making a lot of planning documents. And this time as I’m trying to do new things. For example, as far as the game engine goes, I want to give it a specific look, and [the trailer] is made on one of two candidates. For the new game elements I want to try, you always want to make it and then evaluate and iterate – and those we are doing on the other game engine candidate. We are getting to a very good point about how we are feeling about the visuals so we are very close to making a decision on the game engine. And once that is decided we will be in full production.”

On 20 year relationship with Sony and the PlayStation brand.
“With Sony I have a relationship that goes back over 20 years, there is already this connection. I was fortunate enough that I got many offers from many different people but for me for my first project it was very important to have trust where I was working. In those terms, there was already a relationship of trust with Sony.”

Finally starting his own video game company.
“When starting a company and trying to create a product there are so many problems that come up and within that I want to focus as much as as possible on my creative labours. I want to keep away the noise as much as possible. In that regard I think I made the right choice. We were able to make [the Death Stranding trailer] in two and a half months – I don’t think there are many companies that can pull that off.””
