PlayStation 4 & Xbox One: A Debut Year in Review

Exclusive Games & Content

It’s really sad that neither console offers a KILLER-APP title, a year after its release. We’ve seen a tremendous amount of games delayed to 2015 in the likes of: Batman: Arkham Knight, Tom Clancy’s The Division, The Order: 1886, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, Project CARS, EVOLVE, Quantum Break, Dying Light and Mad Max among others.

Unfortunately, both consoles have been hindered by exclusive releases to support its claims of gamers having to jump into the next-generation. Sadly, the biggest game released on both consoles has been Grand Theft Auto V, a nearly 16-month game that’s been out – still missing its heists missions. The usual third-party suspects like Call of Duty, Madden, FIFA, and Assassin’s Creed will always sway over mainstream users but the true gamers have been patiently waiting for new innovations to the gaming world. Titanfall, Killzone: Shadow Fall, Sunset Overdrive, Forza Horizon 2, and Infamous: Second Son were some of the standout titles on PlayStation 4 and Xbox one, but none generated enough buzz through word of mouth or personal replay value to become new standout franchise.

We will say Electronic Arts is ahead of the pack right now with Titanfall going multi-platform for its future sequel, but the original title released when there was absolutely nothing out to play on either console. Mastering the game from some and becoming overplayed by most made it somewhat redundant, which hopefully games will not see that same fate with a more diverse and balanced choice of titles next year.
