A Look Ahead to 2015
Every year, reports and fans say this is the biggest year ever for gaming. Many will cite 2014 as a lame duck year, which we wouldn’t disagree with, but every console suffers first year jitters in the modern era. Unfortunately, these consoles released when many developers were still trying figure out how to properly use fresh hardware.
In 2015, gamers are set to receive a slew of titles in the likes of Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six: Siege, Mario Party 10, Halo 5: Guardians, Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End, Mortal Kombat X, Dead Island 2, and The Legend of Zelda – to name a few of the standout releases. Each of the three major consoles each have Killer-App title; but as usual, Nintendo is always the dark horse to provide its base with the most quality releases (see: Smash Brothers Wii-U).
In the next 12 months, we should see the direction and fate each companies will take, whether it’s new innovations and/or more price drops. Sony’s obviously dominating the world of gaming in consoles sales and will likely finish ahead of the pack once again in worldwide sales. While Microsoft is gaining an edge in the North American installment base (no surprise), they still have a long way to go following their initial overpriced $499 hardware.
