Following the billion-dollar revenue generated for Pokémon Go over the summer, Nintendo is expanding their brand on iOS this holiday with Mario Run. One video game company looking to tap into the smartphone and tablet market in the coming months is Sony. Chief executive, Kaz Hirai, revealed to the Financial Times that Sony looking to enter the mobile gaming market.
He soon said, “It’s quite a shift from being just a console-based business to being on mobile phones as well. I’m very interested in the fact that it has the potential to really change the way people move, literally. It is an innovative idea that’s going to lift all boats for the video game industry.”
With a dedicated smartphone game developer, ForwardWorks, set to handle intellectual property of the legendary mascots from its library, we’ll have to wait and see what Sony has up their sleeves when the Tokyo Game Show conference goes down this week.
