The final PS4 phase has begun. . .
Tuesday morning, Sony Interactive Entertainment CEO John Kodera held an investors call, as media were invited for a rare occasion. In an hour-long conversation, Mr. Kodera confirmed with analysts and investors that the PlayStation 4 was officially entering the final phase of its life cycle.
He went to re-iterate that there’s still tons of titles coming to PS4 in the next two years. Regarding the console’s life-cycle, Kodera suggested that March 2021 would be the time the company would be looking beyond the PS4 into the future. Much like the PS3, the PlayStation 4 is getting an 8-year life-cycle – in case you were skeptical on making a 4K upgrade for the Pro.
Sony’s currently planning to grow the library of PSVR, which for us has just been Wipeout and Resident Evil 7. So, with this news, its likely that Sony is saving the PlayStation 5 announcement for the 2020 edition of e3 in Los Angeles – with a launch in fall 2021.
Let us know in the comments what you think of the PS4 lasting another 2 ½ years.
SIE head Kodera told analysts and investors that the period until March 2021 would be when PlayStation to "crouch down once" to grow further in the future.
hmmmmmm.

PS chief Kodera: PS4 is entering final phase of its life cycle, which would have negative impact to the unit, but recurring revenue via membership services etc should cushion some of that.

SIE chief Kodera: Beefing up first-party titles wouldn't just mean more new IPs. Strategy includes franchising successful IPs and refreshing existing IPs.
