Video Game NPD Sales for June 2014

Xbox One inching closer to PlayStation 4 in American sales, but nowhere near worldwide total.

The official June 2014 NPD numbers have arrived, showing a noticeable 106% increase in overall hardware sales. Overall retail sales were up 24% in comparison to last year, but software sales across all platforms saw a slight decrease at 3%. One of the eye raisers however, is EA SPORTS UFC not topping the charts this month after a strong viral campaign and commercial coverage leading up to its release 4 weeks ago.

Mario Kart 8 was also a surprise selling nearly a million copies in its first five weeks, but came in second place to the open world Chicago title, WATCH_DOGS. Microsoft revealed earlier today, that Xbox One consoles sales jumped nearly double than we saw in May, but Sony’s PlayStation 4 still finished as the top overall selling console for the 6th consecutive month.

Continue after the jump for the latest report of gaming sales from the NPD Group.
