50 Cent’s Black Mafia Family Series Rollout is Something Most TV Studios Are Afraid to Do

#FreeMech

Just three years ago, 50 Cent confirmed he was readying an official Black Mafia Family series, centered around Big Meech and his associates. Many believe the project will be compared to the wire, as Meech’s son and brother Terry will be having direct input for the project.

While Kanan is yet to reveal a date for series, Starz greenlighted the project last week, with filming officially beginning. The show is set to star Demetrius “Lil Meech” Flenory Jr., Russell Hornsby, Steve Harris, Kash Doll, Da’Vinchi, Wood Harris, Steve Harris, Michole Briana White, Ajiona Alexus, Eric Kofi-Abrefa and Myles Truittas.

The 8-episode introduction is currently being filmed in Atlanta and Detroit, the bulk of where the Mafia spent most of their time. Tasha Smith (Empire, Power), will be directing the pilot, along with other episodes down the line. So, why is this so important to 50 Cent and why he’s so confident it’ll be an instant smash.

Because, he has the people behind, outsiders curious about the most influential black street organization and the freedom to do what he wants with presenting it in the right light. Most TV studios are scared to immediately greenlight a new series from the ground up.

Considering this has only been announced for three years, this is shocking to every film studio; as they can take up to 10 years to write, cast and produce projects. Judging by the interest for this Black story from Detroit, to Los Angeles, Miami, Houston, New York and Atlanta – those who didn’t experience the greatest show on earth will be given a lesson on how to stand 10 toes down.

We’re expecting this project to likely hit Starz this fourth quarter or early 2022. Look for King 50 to make an announcement in the coming months on when to expect it.
