One of the greatest memberships in the history of retailing has been Amazon Prime. Since its launch during 2005, the free two-day shipping (discounted one-day shipping) service has been the Trojan horse many have used for mainly shopping at Amazon’s online store. The previous flat annual Prime membership fee of $79 will now increase to $99, $20 more than before to mark the company’s first ever price hike. Student Prime memberships will also see an increase, but only from $39 to $49 (which we’re still using 10 years later after college).
Along with free shipping on all Prime enabled products, the membership will still include Amazon Instant Video and the Kindle library of over 500,000 books. With the two services continuing to improve in quality, as well as the online store offering new products daily; if you’re an online shopper, the extra $20/$10 shouldn’t affect your bank account that much.
Disclaimer: Amazon Prime Fresh Will Remain At Its Original Membership Fee Of $299.
