Please, just one sketch with Ariana Grande!
In a few weeks, NBC will pilot season 40 for the long-time live sketch comedy series, SNL. With plans of a three-hour 40th anniversary episode featuring their biggest alumnus from over the years to make appearances next February, the show is starting things off with a bang. Earlier this week, premature rumors of Ariana Grande and Iggy Azalea opening the season surfaced, but NBC officially revealed today Guardians of the Galaxy star Chris Pratt would be hosting the season’s first episode.
While Ariana is still on track as the night’s musical guest, we’re expecting Iggy to make a surprise during her performance for “Problem.” We’re hoping her close associate Big Sean makes an appearance on the episode together for their collaborative “Best Mistake,” but we’ll have to wait until September 27th to find out.
The following week, comedian-actress Sarah Silverman has been tapped to host the show, with Maroon V serving as the special musical guest for their October 4th appearance.
The season’s already seeing multiple changes, with long-time voice of the series Don Pardo passing away over the summer at the age of 96, but also a few cast members that won’t be returning this year. With Nasim Pedrad, Noël Wells, John Milhiser and Brooks Wheelan all departed from the series, writing changes are also imminent ahead with head writer Colin Jost receiving some assistance heading forward.
