The trailer for Citizenfour starts out very creepy, but considering the information at hand, it should. The Laura Poitras and Gleen Greenwald documentary is their first-hand look at how they met with United States public enemy number one, Edward Snowden, out in Hong Kong several times. This groundbreaking moment in history was captured on camera, as they received hundreds of documents exposing the National Security Administration for their abuse of power.
Interestingly, Poitras was already making a film about surveillance after 9/11 when she started receiving encrypted emails from “citizen four.” That person ended up being Snowden.
The documentary is also executive produced by Steven Soderbergh.
