Facebook is Inplementing Copyright Identification System Soon

If you’re posting unauthorized material on the Internet, you will get caught in some form or another. Between Soundcloud take downs and the labels sending out cease & desist letters to remove certain songs and videos from websites, there’s no escaping the wrath.

Now, Facebook is introducing a copyright identification system to combat music rights infringement and are developing the technology as we speak. The system will track and identify copyrighted content, much like YouTube’s Content ID.

This comes at a time when major labels have been trying to crack down on users posting viral videos which contain copyrighted music (ie. #MannequinChallenge, etc.) Through YouTube, the labels have recouped over $1 billion in revenue through advertising on these viral videos, something they’re missing out on with Facebook not having the technology.

With this system in place and in the works, the major labels and social media giant are having a more productive relationship and seem like they will hash things out for the future.
